TAGS (originally “Thompson Academy of Gymnastics”) was founded in 1977 by Julia Thompson and Greg Aretz with just 50 students and a small team of passionate coaches. Their dedication, long hours, and love for the sport helped grow TAGS into one of the most trusted gymnastics programs in Minnesota. Today, over 100,000 individuals can proudly say, “I went to TAGS!”

A Continued Family Legacy

In 2013, Julia and Greg’s children, Tony Aretz and Alex Pesavento, joined the ownership team and now proudly lead TAGS, following in their parents’ footsteps. With Julia and Greg now enjoying retirement, Tony and Alex carry on the same values and vision that TAGS was built on. Together, they own and operate both TAGS Gymnastics locations—Apple Valley and Eden Prairie. With over 55 years of combined experience in youth gymnastics, their continued mission is to provide the highest quality gymnastics program in a safe, fun, and positive environment.

Two Premier Gymnastics Locations

TAGS offers gymnastics programs for boys and girls ages 1 to 17 at two convenient locations in Apple Valley and Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Each week, more than 4,000 students participate in preschool gymnastics, recreational classes, and competitive team programs. Whether your child is new to gymnastics or looking to advance their skills, TAGS has a program to support their growth, confidence, and development.

Competitive Gymnastics Programs

TAGS is proud to offer high-level competitive gymnastics through both the USAG Developmental and Xcel programs. Our boys and girls teams consistently perform at the State, Regional, and National competitions. Over 115 TAGS athletes have gone on to compete at the collegiate level—a testament to our coaching staff and athlete development programs.

State-of-the-Art Facilities

Both TAGS locations offer state-of-the-art gymnastics facilities designed with safety, performance, and progression in mind. Our spacious gyms are fully equipped with Olympic-style apparatus, as well as a variety of in-ground foam pits and trampolines that allow athletes to develop skills safely and effectively. Each facility is thoughtfully organized to support gymnasts of all levels—from beginners to advanced competitors—within a clean, comfortable, and well-maintained environment.

We also strive to make every visit enjoyable for the whole family. Our Apple Valley and Eden Prairie locations feature welcoming lobbies with large viewing windows and complimentary Wi-Fi, allowing parents and siblings to comfortably watch and support their gymnast’s journey.

Our Experienced Coaching Staff

TAGS employs over 100 part-time gymnastics instructors and 15 full-time staff members. More than 30 of our employees have been with us for over 10 years—many for more than 20! Our nationally recognized coaches are committed to continuing education through the TAGS staff training program and USA Gymnastics certifications. When it comes to coaching, we believe the learning never stops—for our staff or our students.

Other TAGS Perks

• We offer sibling discounts for students from the same immediate family – 10% off the second child, 20% off the third child and the fourth child is FREE! (20% is the maximum discount for camps)
• The TAGS Proshop offers a variety of athletic attire options (leotards, biker shorts, t-shirts, etc.).
• TAGS runs Progressive Meets at select times throughout the year for interested students in select levels. Gymnasts receive ribbons on each event and a trophy in the all-around!
• We offer a discount for 2 times per week – 25% off the second class!
• Priority registration is given during the school year to currently enrolled students provided they reserve their class by the designated date published in the TAGS Talk.  Registration for Summer Session, Fall 1 & Camps are taken on a first come, first served basis.
